We are looking for the best Philippine startup that can represent our country in Startup World Cup global pitch competition.
The startup should at least have a working MVP (minimum viable product) during the competition.
The startup should be operating in the Philippines.
All local startups in any funding round are encouraged to apply.
Retno Dewati is SEA Regional Manager at Fenox Venture Capital, a global venture capital firm headquartered in Silicon Valley with $1.5 Billion AUM and 90+ investments across the world. She is responsible to lead deal sourcing and investment activities as well as business development for Fenox SEA office. Retno has deeper insight in startups industry and strong analysis in investment decision. She has reviewed more than 500 startups over a year and manage 25+ portfolio companies in SEA. Retno is also the founding member of GnB Accelerator - a joint venture accelerator program between Fenox VC and Infocom Corporation Japan. At GnB Accelerator, Retno is responsible in selecting startups, manage the investment and being in-house mentor.
Jojo is currently involved in the overall strategic planning and prioritizing of Plug and Play. Jojo’s immediate focus is on building strategic alliances in the Philippines and other reigns of South East Asia. He is also co-founder of Launch Garage, which is tech innovation hub in Manila that provides an venue for open collaboration.
Manny is the Managing Director of Endeavor Philippines, a Southeast Asian affiliate of a global non-profit organization that catalyzes economic growth by accelerating high-impact entrepreneurs.
Prior to Endeavor, Manny founded Hatchd, a tech incubator in the Philippines that has built a portfolio of consumer tech companies, and was a co-founder of IRG Ltd, a Hong Kong based M&A advisory boutique, where he worked on various transactions in the Telecoms, Media and Tech sectors across the Asia Pacific. Manny is also a past president of the Philippine Chapter of Entrepreneurs Organization (“EO”) and sits on the Board of Directors of Sky Cable. He has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA from Yale University.
Dan is a co-founder as well as the Senior Vice-President and Treasurer of Kickstart Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of Globe Telecom. He also concurrently supports Globe in M&A activities, which in the past have included acquisitions of Yondu (formerly Entertainment Gateway Group) and Bayan Telecommunications.
Dan’s career track has mostly been in global tech-related companies, particularly in telecommunications, personal portable computers, and over a decade in tech venture investing with JAFCO Asia, with senior-level stints in key global markets including the US, Japan, Europe, Southeast Asia, and Australia.
Dan holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, Indiana, USA, and dual master’s degrees from the University of Pennsylvania’s Lauder Institute in International Studies (MA) minoring in German studies, and the Wharton School of Business (MBA).
Paris de l’Etraz, PhD has spent over 20 years in investment banking and venture capital, mainly at UBS Bank and ABN AMRO. In 1999, he receieved his first of two patents regarding contact networking. Since 2005, he has continued to be in the business of either raising funds, setting up new companies, selling or buying companies through his group Amazing Lab. He has a keen interest for what makes an entrepreneur and what he/she needs to succeed. In particular he has focused on seed capital, in digital marketing, sports management, video games, renewable energy and new technology industries.
James Tan is managing partner of Quest Ventures, a leading venture fund for technology companies. Prior to this, James was co-founder and COO of 55tuan (NASDAQ listed), one of China’s largest e-commerce companies with an annual transaction volume near $1 billion.
Quest Ventures was the first or one of the earliest investors in today’s trailblazers such as 99.co, Burpple, Carousell, Ethis, KeyReply, Oddle.me, ShopBack, Spiking, Lenda, Vulcan Post, and Xfers.
Dr. CP David is the Executive Director of DOST-PCIEERD. He is a licensed geologist and professor of Geology and Environmental Science in UP Diliman. A project leader of the DOST’s Project NOAH, Dr. David pioneers short term rainfall forecasting in the country and climate change-related research on water resources. Dr. David is also a member of the Panel of Experts (PoE) of the Climate Change Commission.
